STRATEGIC TECHNOLOGY PARTNER · POSTMAN

Run Your APIs as Governed Products, From Spec to Production.

Design, test, document, govern and monitor the APIs that expose your data platforms, data products and AI agents with Postman. Bassirah connects specifications, test suites, governance rules and monitors to your delivery pipelines and operating model.

Postman is one of Bassirah’s Strategic Technology Partners. Our relationship is subject to the applicable Postman program and agreement. Implementation scope, resell rights and support entitlements are confirmed in each customer engagement. Available features depend on your Postman plan, add-ons and contract.

WHY POSTMAN

APIs Are How Data and AI Reach the Business

Data products, analytical platforms and AI agents are increasingly consumed through APIs. When those APIs are inconsistent, untested or undocumented, every consumer pays for it.

Postman describes itself as an API platform for building, testing, documenting, monitoring and governing APIs. Teams design specifications in Spec Hub, organize requests and tests in collections, simulate dependencies with mock servers, check specifications against governance rules and run collections on a schedule with monitors. The Postman CLI brings the same collections, specification checks and mocks into CI/CD pipelines and coding-agent workflows.

Bassirah uses Postman to make the APIs around your data and AI platforms predictable: we start from the consumers and the data contract, then design, test, document and monitor the API against agreed acceptance criteria. Exact capabilities depend on your Postman plan, add-ons and the version you use.

  • Specifications first: OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, GraphQL, protobuf or Smithy, kept in sync with collections.
  • Tests and governance checks that run in your CI/CD pipeline, not only on a developer’s laptop.
  • Documentation and monitors that keep consumers informed after go-live.

WHAT BASSIRAH DELIVERS

From API Design to Monitored Production

Our Postman engagements cover the whole API lifecycle and connect the tooling to your delivery process.

  • Design or import API specifications in Spec Hub and agree data contracts with producers and consumers.
  • Structure workspaces, collections and environments around teams, domains and access rules.
  • Build functional and data-driven test suites, and run them in CI/CD with the Postman CLI.
  • Define API governance rulesets, including custom Spectral-based rules, where your plan includes API Governance.
  • Set up mock servers so consumers and front-end or agent teams can build before the backend is ready.
  • Publish API reference documentation from collections, or plan a fuller documentation site.
  • Configure monitors for health and performance checks, including internal APIs where your plan supports it.
  • Design secret handling with Postman Vault and environment conventions, and hand over runbooks.

USE CASES

Where Postman Fits

Solution concepts. Each design is validated against your APIs and Postman plan.

APIs over data platforms and data products

Design, test and document the APIs that serve curated lakehouse, warehouse or real-time data to applications and partners, with contracts consumers can rely on.

API governance and consistency at scale

Turn API standards into governance rules applied to specifications and checked in CI/CD, so new APIs follow the same conventions.

APIs and MCP servers for AI agents

Experiment with, test and evaluate MCP servers and AI model requests in Postman before agents use them in production.

ARCHITECTURE DISCIPLINE

The Decisions That Determine API Quality

Most API reliability, security and consumer experience outcomes are decided early. We make these decisions explicit, document them and test them.

Available capabilities depend on your Postman plan, add-ons and contract. We confirm them before committing to a design. We do not publish generic performance or productivity figures.
Design areaWhat we decideHow we validate
Specification and contractSpecification format, versioning, naming, error model and data contract per consumerSpecification review with producers and consumers; syntax and governance checks
Workspace modelWorkspaces, collections, environments and roles per team, domain and partnerAccess review against your identity and data-handling rules
TestingFunctional, data-driven and regression tests; which suites run where and whenCollection runs in CI/CD with agreed pass criteria
GovernanceRulesets, custom rules and where they apply, where your plan includes API GovernanceRule results on existing and new specifications
Mocks and consumersMock servers for parallel development and consumer onboardingConsumer walkthroughs against the mock

An API lifecycle runs from design in Spec Hub through collections and mock servers, functional, data-driven and MCP tests, governance checks on specifications, documentation and scheduled monitors. The Postman CLI runs collections, specification checks and mocks inside the CI/CD pipeline, where agreed checks can block a release. APIs expose lakehouse data products, real-time analytics and operational services to applications, partners and AI agents, including MCP servers tested before use. API Governance and API Catalog depend on the Postman plan (Enterprise). Bassirah's delivery scope spans contracts, workspace design, testing, governance, CI/CD integration and monitoring, while Postman vendor support is provided under the customer's plan.

Governed API lifecycle with Postman

Some Postman capabilities, including API Governance, the API Catalog and Postman Insights, are available on Postman Enterprise plans. Postman vendor support is provided by Postman under the customer’s own plan. Bassirah designs, implements and operates the API lifecycle around it.

Standardizing APIs across teams?

Bring your specifications and pipelines. We will plan a scoped governance and testing proof of concept with clear success criteria.

ENGINEERING PRINCIPLES

Tooling Helps. Discipline Makes It Work.

An API platform makes good practice easier to apply. It does not decide your contracts, standards or ownership for you. We design Postman programs around three principles.

Contract before code

Agree the specification and data contract with consumers first, then generate collections, mocks and documentation from it.

Automate the checks

Run tests and governance checks in the pipeline on every change, so standards are enforced without manual review queues.

Protect what is in the workspace

Collections and environments can hold tokens and sample data. Secrets, access and test data are designed before teams start sharing.

HOW WE ENGAGE

A Clear Path From Workshop to Governed APIs

  1. API lifecycle workshopReview your APIs, consumers, data products, standards, pipelines and Postman plan. Example deliverables: Current-state assessment and requirements summary.
  2. DesignDefine the workspace model, specification and contract conventions, test strategy, governance rules and monitoring. Example deliverables: Architecture decision record, conventions guide, ruleset design.
  3. PilotApply the design to priority APIs: specifications, test suites, mocks, governance checks and monitors in CI/CD. Example deliverables: Working pilot, test and rule results, recommendations.
  4. RolloutExtend to further teams and APIs, publish documentation and onboard consumers. Example deliverables: Rolled-out workspaces, pipelines and documentation, runbooks.
  5. Operate and improveHand over, or continue with contracted managed support and periodic API health reviews. Example deliverables: Operational handover, knowledge transfer, improvement backlog.

Postman: Frequently Asked Questions

Postman is an API platform for building, testing, documenting, monitoring and governing APIs. It includes Spec Hub for API specifications, collections for requests and tests, mock servers, monitors, documentation, governance features and the Postman CLI for pipelines and coding agents. Bassirah connects these to your delivery process and operating model.

No. Vendor support is provided by Postman according to the customer’s own plan. Bassirah provides design, implementation, integration and contracted managed support alongside it.

Postman documents API Governance, configurable governance rules, the API Catalog and Postman Insights as available on Postman Enterprise plans. Plans and add-ons change over time, so we confirm the capabilities in your plan and contract before committing to a design.

Yes. Postman supports MCP requests to experiment with, test and evaluate MCP servers, and requests to AI models so responses can be compared. We use this to validate the tools your agents will call before they reach production, alongside tracing and evaluation in production.

We use the Postman CLI to run collections, check specifications against governance rules and manage mocks in your pipelines, for example in GitHub Actions. Rules and pass criteria are agreed with your teams so failed checks block a release only where intended.

We design workspace access by role, keep credentials in Postman Vault or your secrets manager rather than shared environments, and use synthetic or masked test data instead of production personal data. Vault feature availability depends on your Postman plan.
