POSTGRESQL · INDEPENDENT ENGINEERING

Operate Resilient Enterprise Relational Data.

Modernize and operate PostgreSQL environments with disciplined database engineering, performance tuning and recoverability planning.

Independent PostgreSQL engineering.

These are independent Bassirah engineering and support offerings. They do not imply upstream vendor or foundation endorsement, official vendor support rights, enterprise feature entitlement or maintenance guarantees.

WHY IT MATTERS

A Proven Database. Reliability Still Has to Be Engineered.

PostgreSQL provides an extensible relational foundation, but enterprise reliability depends on storage, replication topology, workload control and tested procedures.

PostgreSQL gives you strong transactional guarantees, rich SQL and a broad extension ecosystem under a permissive open-source license. High availability, automated failover, connection management and backup tooling, however, are choices you assemble and operate. The difference between a database that runs and one that recovers predictably lies in those choices and in how often they are tested.

WHAT BASSIRAH DELIVERS

Independent PostgreSQL Engineering and DBA Services

  • High availability — Design HA, replication, connection management and failover tooling.
  • Recoverability — Implement backup/PITR, recovery drills and disaster recovery designs.
  • Performance — Tune SQL, indexes, vacuum, statistics, capacity and monitoring.
  • Lifecycle — Support upgrades, migrations, security and infrastructure automation.
  • Security hardening — TLS, authentication configuration, role design with least privilege, and audit logging appropriate to your requirements.
  • Extension governance — Review and approve extensions for compatibility, security and upgrade impact.
  • Observability — Metrics, slow-query analysis, replication lag and bloat monitoring with actionable alerts.
  • Runbooks — Failover, restore, upgrade and incident runbooks handed over to your team.

RESILIENCE

Failover You Have Tested, Restores You Have Proven

We combine streaming replication, an automated failover manager selected for your environment, connection routing and point-in-time recovery, then prove each scenario against RTO and RPO you approve. See HA/DR & Platform Reliability.

Failover You Have Tested, Restores You Have Proven
ScenarioDesign patternHow we validate
Primary instance failureStreaming replicas with an automated failover manager and a consensus store or equivalent to avoid split-brain; clients reconnect through a stable endpointControlled failover drill; measured reconnect behavior

PostgreSQL high availability pattern: applications connect through a pooler to a primary that streams to replicas in two sites, coordinated by a failover manager, with WAL archives and base backups enabling point-in-time recovery.

PERFORMANCE

Evidence-Led Tuning

Queries and indexes

Analyze execution plans for the statements that consume the most time, then add, change or remove indexes based on evidence.

Vacuum and statistics

Tune autovacuum and statistics so tables stay healthy, bloat is controlled and the planner makes good choices.

Capacity and configuration

Align memory, storage, checkpoint and WAL settings with your hardware and workload, and plan capacity ahead of growth.

USE CASES

Where PostgreSQL Engineering Matters

Transactional applications

Transactional applications and enterprise services that need dependable consistency and recovery.

Migration from proprietary databases

Migration from proprietary relational databases, with compatibility assessment and reconciled cutover.

Operational data for analytics

Reliable operational data feeding analytics and lakehouse platforms, without overloading the primary.

MIGRATION

Move to PostgreSQL With Traceability and Controlled Risk

Delivered through our migration and modernization practice.

  1. InventoryCatalog schemas, procedural code, data types, integrations and workloads.
  2. Assess compatibilityIdentify features that translate directly, need rework, or need an alternative design.
  3. Convert and testConvert schema and code, then test functionality and performance against representative workloads.
  4. Parallel run and reconcileSynchronize data, run in parallel and reconcile results with agreed control checks.
  5. Cut overExecute a rehearsed cutover with explicit rollback decision points, then stabilize and hand over.

PostgreSQL: Frequently Asked Questions

PostgreSQL provides replication, but automated failover is typically handled by a separate failover manager together with connection routing. We select and configure that tooling for your environment and test it, including split-brain protection.

We work with community-supported major versions and help you plan upgrades before a version reaches its community end of life. The versions in scope are confirmed in each statement of work.

No. Replication protects availability, but deletions and corruption replicate too. Backups with WAL archiving allow point-in-time recovery, and we test restores regularly.

Yes. We assess compatibility, convert schema and code, run in parallel with reconciliation, and cut over with rollback decision points. Effort depends heavily on procedural code and vendor-specific features.

PostgreSQL is a community project. Our services are independent engineering and support, with scope and response terms defined in your contract.
