WHY MONGODB ATLAS & ENTERPRISE ADVANCED

Document Data With Commercial Assurance

Use MongoDB’s commercial offerings when application teams need flexible document data together with vendor-backed support, enterprise controls and a clear operating model.

MongoDB Atlas is MongoDB’s fully managed cloud database service: the vendor operates the database infrastructure, and your team focuses on data models, queries and application integration. MongoDB Enterprise Advanced is the self-managed commercial edition, adding enterprise security, auditing and operations tooling for organizations that run MongoDB in their own data centers or cloud accounts. Exact capabilities depend on edition, entitlement and deployed version.

Either way, outcomes depend on design. Document models, indexes, cluster topology, consistency settings and security controls determine how an application performs, recovers and is secured as it grows. Bassirah starts from your access patterns, data volumes, resilience objectives and regulatory constraints, then designs, implements and validates the platform against agreed acceptance criteria.

  • Deployment model matched to your operating model: fully managed Atlas or self-managed Enterprise Advanced.
  • Data models and indexes designed from real access patterns, then validated with representative data.
  • Security, backup and operations designed in from the start, with MongoDB vendor support where your subscription includes it.

WHAT BASSIRAH DELIVERS

From Deployment Choice to Production Operations

Our MongoDB engagements cover the full lifecycle, from the Atlas or Enterprise Advanced decision to hardened production operations.

  • Assess workloads and recommend Atlas, Enterprise Advanced or Community Server, with the trade-offs documented.
  • Design document models, schema validation, indexes and query patterns from real application access paths.
  • Design cluster topology: replica sets, sharding where justified, and regional placement against the availability objectives you approve.
  • Integrate identity, network isolation, encryption and auditing with your enterprise security standards, as available in your edition.
  • Plan and execute migrations from MongoDB Community Server, other databases or legacy platforms, with validation and rollback plans.
  • Design search and vector search patterns with Atlas Search and Atlas Vector Search where licensed, or recommend alternatives.
  • Define backup, restore and disaster recovery procedures, and test them with restore drills.
  • Set up monitoring, alerting and upgrade procedures, hand over runbooks, or continue with contracted managed support.

ARCHITECTURE DISCIPLINE

The Decisions That Determine MongoDB Outcomes

Most MongoDB reliability, security and performance outcomes are decided early. We make these decisions explicit, document them and test them.

Performance and recovery targets are defined with you and validated in a proof of concept. Available capabilities depend on edition, entitlement and deployed version. We do not publish generic performance figures.
Design areaWhat we decideHow we validate
Deployment modelAtlas (cloud provider, regions, cluster configuration) or Enterprise Advanced (infrastructure, automation, ops tooling)Decision record against operating model, compliance and cost assumptions
Data modelEmbedding versus referencing, document size bounds, schema validationRepresentative documents and access patterns
Indexes and queriesIndex set from real query shapes, aggregation pipelines, read and write concernsQuery plan review and load test with representative data
TopologyReplica set members, failure domains, sharding and shard keys where justifiedFailover and node-loss drills
Search and vector searchAtlas Search and Atlas Vector Search where licensed, or an alternative search componentRelevance and latency testing against agreed criteria
SecurityIdentity and access, network isolation, encryption, auditing as available in the editionSecurity review against your control framework
Backup and operationsBackup policy, restore procedure, monitoring, alerting, upgrade pathRestore drill and upgrade rehearsal
Applications connect through MongoDB drivers over secure connections to either MongoDB Atlas, a fully managed cloud service, or MongoDB Enterprise Advanced, a self-managed edition, each running replica sets across failure domains. Depending on edition, entitlement and deployed version, the platform provides search and vector search where licensed, backup and restore, monitoring and alerting, and security controls for identity, network isolation, encryption and auditing. Optional components include Redis caching, Trino OSS or Starburst SQL read paths through the MongoDB connector, partner-led ClickHouse or ClickHouse OSS for analytics offload and DataHub Core for metadata. Bassirah's delivery scope spans architecture, data modeling, migration, security design, integration and operations, while MongoDB vendor support is provided under the customer's own subscription.

CHOOSE YOUR SUPPORT ROUTE

MongoDB (Partner-Led) or MongoDB Community Server?

MongoDB appears in both of Bassirah’s portfolios. They are two procurement and support routes into related technology, with different licensing, commercial terms and responsibilities. Choose the one that fits your operating model, or ask us to compare them for your workload.

WORKS WELL WITH

MongoDB in an Integrated Platform

MongoDB fits best as an operational database for application data. We connect it with complementary platforms where the workload justifies it, and keep heavy analytics off the operational path.

Trino OSS or Starburst

SQL access to supported MongoDB collections alongside other sources, through the MongoDB connector, for analytic read paths.

ClickHouse

Offload heavy analytical and reporting queries to partner-led ClickHouse or ClickHouse OSS.

Redis

Caching and session patterns in front of MongoDB for latency-sensitive application paths.

Langfuse

Tracing and evaluation for LLM applications that retrieve context with vector search, where suitable.

DataHub Core

Metadata, ownership and lineage across MongoDB collections and downstream systems, where the connector supports your deployment.

SEE IT IN CONTEXT

Where MongoDB Fits in Real Architectures

Operational Database Modernization

Decide where MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Apache Cassandra and Redis belong, and modernize with controlled risk.

Embedded Analytics for SaaS

MongoDB as a system of record, with analytics served from a separate tenant-aware layer.

MongoDB: Frequently Asked Questions

They are two procurement and support routes into related technology. MongoDB (partner-led) is built on MongoDB Atlas or MongoDB Enterprise Advanced under the customer’s MongoDB subscription, where vendor support may apply under that agreement. MongoDB Community Server support is independent Bassirah engineering for self-managed MongoDB Community Server, which is source-available under the SSPL, with no vendor support or escalation implied.

No. Vendor support is provided by MongoDB according to the customer’s own subscription. Bassirah provides architecture, implementation, migration and contracted operational services alongside it, and helps your team work with MongoDB support when issues arise.

Atlas suits teams that want a fully managed cloud service and prefer the vendor to operate the database infrastructure. Enterprise Advanced suits organizations that must run MongoDB in their own data centers or cloud accounts while using enterprise security, auditing and operations tooling. We compare both against your operating model, compliance needs and cost assumptions, depending on edition, entitlement and deployed version.

Yes. We assess the current deployment, plan the target topology and security, migrate data with validation, and define a controlled cutover with a rollback plan. Migration tooling and approach depend on versions, data volumes and downtime tolerance, and are confirmed during design.

Where licensed and suitable, Atlas Search and Atlas Vector Search let applications run full-text and vector queries close to operational data. We assess relevance, scale and cost requirements, and recommend a separate search or vector component where that fits better.

Yes, with care for the operational cluster. Trino and Starburst provide a MongoDB connector for SQL access to supported collections, and data can be replicated into ClickHouse or a lakehouse for heavy analytics. We validate data types, performance and load on the operational database before recommending a path.
